Programs

Cooperative Research

PIFG supports research programs that rely on active fishermen participation. These programs build relationships between the fishing community and fishery scientist and mangers. They help fishermen better understand fishery management and conservation programs, processes and goals. Cooperative research include angler based tagging, gear development or modification and collecting samples for scientific studies

Fishermen Network

Building an active network of fishermen, fishing and seafood representatives, fishery organizations, government agencies and other interested parties is one of the fundamental functions of PIFG. The network supports all PIFG programs.

Network tools include:

  • Quarterly newsletter highlights activities, local and federal legislation, fishery issues and other important fishery topics
  • Web site distributes timely information
  • Web site polls fishermen opinion on important issues
  • Online Flea Market offers fishermen a venue to swap fishing equipment, services and tackle
  • The Tackle Teaser discount card provides fishermen with loads of discounts on products and services fishermen actually use.

Outreach and Education

Like the rise and fall of the tide, information must flow both ways. PIFG keeps information flowing between the fishing community and fishery managers, scientist and policy makers.

To do this, PIFG:

  • Supports public events, forums, shows and conferences
  • Engages shore and boat based fishing clubs and tournaments
  • Supports a kids fishing club
  • Hosts an annual fishing festival
  • Monitors Federal and State legislation and policy development
