Pacific Islands Fisheries Group Tagging Update
Aloha Taggers,
Happy New Year! We had a great 2024, wrapping up with 182 fish tagged, 7 fish recovered, by 31 members of our community. This work continues to build upon the legacy of fishermen-led tagging and research in the Main Hawaiian Islands. Thank you for your participation and support.

2025 Tagging Recognition:
We are excited to give back to our taggers in partnership with our community sponsors. We will be holding a monthly recognition category for all active taggers. All you have to do is submit your catch to be entered, please include a photo as you are able. The recognition will run throughout 2025 and each quarter, the categories will be announced.

Winners will be announced at the start of the next month and recognition will be distributed or shipped based on location.
First Fish of 2025 Prize
The first fish of 2025 was a 20.5” Omilu tagged by Eric Suzuki on 1/1/25. Recognition for this fish is a Deba Knife made of Aogami steel by Tojiro Co., Ltd. in Japan.
Recent Catches:
Closing out the year, we had some great tagged fish. 17 fish were tagged in December and 1 recapture. A11661 was recaptured off Big Island by Alfred Codero.
A11661 Ulua was originally tagged by Sherm Warner on May 18, 2022 at 18” it was at liberty for 929 days, grew 10” and traveled 31.5 miles.
